My architectural photography favourites

I thought I’d share my favourite architecture images from photoshoots past to give you an insight on some of my most special work. I hope you find these pictures as interesting as there were to conceive and produce.

UTS Sydney Double Helix Staircase

I like this images because though it is a hero feature of the building it has so many different faces, not only from below but from the top and side views.

I got in touch with the media unit at UTS to gain permission to come in and capture the staircase. I ended up pretty much laying flat on the floor to find the angle I was after.

This was was just shot for me of a double helix stair case at UTS Sydney by FJMT Architects.

Another University Staircase Leads to Gold

This one was for Sydney University of The Charles Perkins Centre by FJMT Architects
To me this is a hidden feature of the building, it is a view that many wouldn’t see because to do so you have to look straight up the centre of one of the central staircases.

Again, I found myself laying flat and or in very awkward situations to achieve this view. I think it is a feature that was included to be uncovered by the right set of eyes.

As well as finding a beautiful Fibonacci curve in the view, the image scored me 93/100 gold award at my national and state photographic competitions.

Another Sydney Uni Staircase

Also captured for Sydney University, by architects Woods Bagot.

Again, another staircase feature, although this time around, I have looked to capture elements of it rather than the entire feature.

Specifically, I tried to make use elements in order to show how the walls/ceilings cross over with the natural wood in the staircase structure.

I really wanted to bring the curves and materials together without the need to capture a more usual view of such a major feature.

Do You Like Staircases as Much as I Do?
